Former first lady Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi dies at 97

  Wife of late Nigerian Military Head of State, Major General J.T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi, Victoria, is dead. The former First Lady died peacefully on Monday morning, August 23 at the age of 97. She would have been 98 on November 21, 2021. Her husband, and the Supreme Commander of the National Military Government, was killed on July 29, 1966. Chief Mrs. Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi never re-married.

Remain calm, Makinde urges residents as herdsmen attack Igangan

 


The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has called for calm after suspected killer Fulani herdsmen attacked Igangan, in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of the state.

The PUNCH reported that residents said the attack started at around midnight on Sunday. Five people were killed by the attackers who also lost five of their members at the hands of security operatives who rushed down to the scene.

During the attack, a truck loaded with cassava flour and some cars were said to have been set ablaze by the gunmen.




Reacting to the incident, Makinde who took to his verified Twitter handle on Sunday described it as shocking.

The governor, however, said ​security operatives are now in control of the situation.

“I have received the shocking news of the attacks on residents of Igangan, Ibarapaland, in the early hours of this morning. I am currently being briefed on the incidents. I urge residents to remain calm as security operatives are now in control of the situation,” he tweeted.
