Former first lady Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi dies at 97

  Wife of late Nigerian Military Head of State, Major General J.T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi, Victoria, is dead. The former First Lady died peacefully on Monday morning, August 23 at the age of 97. She would have been 98 on November 21, 2021. Her husband, and the Supreme Commander of the National Military Government, was killed on July 29, 1966. Chief Mrs. Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi never re-married.

North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un spotted with plaster on the back of his head and mysterious black spots in latest health scare

  Kim Jong Un has been spotted with a dark spot on the back of his head, which is sometimes covered with plaster, in the latest health scare. The North Korean leader was first seen at the end of July when he attended a series of events including a military parade and meeting with veterans.  The apparent wound was seen uncovered or covered by a colored plaster. There has been speculation about the 37-year-old's health since his apparent weight loss left him "looking emaciated" Back in June, State media described Kim as 'emaciated' and 'breaking our people's hearts,' in an apparent effort to evoke sympathy for the despot who has admitted publicly to a 'great crisis' brought about by the pandemic.  Daily NKIt is believed that he developed the mark on his head sometime after July 11 because on that date he was seen at an appearance with musicians with no trace of it, according to a North Korean monitoring site

Ese Brume wins Nigeria’s first medal at Tokyo Olympics

  Nigeria has finally gotten its first medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after Ese Brume claimed a bronze medal after finishing third in the women’s long jump event in the early hours of Tuesday, August 3. Brume leaped 6.97 meters with her very first jump to claim bronze behind second-placed Brittany Reece of the United States and gold medallist Malaika Mihambo of Germany. This is Nigeria’s first medal in athletics at the Olympic Games in 13 years. Brume, who is the African record holder in the women’s Long Jump event, had qualified for the final stage on Sunday with a jump of 6.76m, 1cm more than the required mark. She finished with the fourth overall best jump among the finalists before going into Tuesday’s final to win Nigeria’s first medal. She joins Okagbare and Glory Alozie as the only Nigerians to win individual medals at both the Worlds and the Olympics.

18 killed as armed bandits raid five Kaduna communities

  Eighteen people, including a police officer, have reportedly been killed in attacks by armed bandits on five communities in Chawai chiefdom, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.  It was gathered that the attacks occurred on Monday morning, August 2, in Kigom, Kikoba, Kishisho, and Ungwan Magaji communities. A resident of Kigom, who preferred anonymity, told Daily Trust that the attackers invaded the community in large numbers, shooting sporadically. One person died in the attack, he added. It was further gathered that six persons were reportedly killed at Ungwan Magaji, six in Kikoba, one from Kigom, and five from Kishisho. “The invaders destroyed property worth millions of naira including farmlands in the affected areas,” the resident said. 

Fresh graduate of Yabatech dies after being stabbed during signing out celebration

  A fresh graduate of Yaba College of Technology has died after he was stabbed shortly after taking his last exam. Victor Moore Osatuyi, a  higher National Diploma 2 civil engineering student, had gone out to celebrate with friends after their last exams when he was stabbed. The father-of-one had joined his colleagues to celebrate at a lounge on July 28 after their exams. However, a fight broke out in the lounge, and Victor was injured. The victim, who was the class governor of his set, was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors tried unsuccessfully to save him before they pronounced him dead.  Victor was buried on July 30. Students of Yabatech have scheduled a candlelight event in his honor to hold today, August 3. Below are tributes from friends.

  Photos of DSS operatives allegedly assaulting a journalist at an Abuja court have been shared online.  The incident happened when the Department of State Services produced eight out of 12 aides of Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho in court on Monday, August 2.  A lawyer representing the 12 detained aides of Sunday Igboho, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has also condemned the alleged harassment of journalists at the Federal High Court, Abuja.  Olajengbesi in a statement titled, ‘SSS harassment of journalists in court premises’ said;   “I condemn in totality the brutal harassment of journalists and media personnel by operatives of the Department of State Service this morning at the Federal High Court, Abuja. “Newsmen and reporters who had exercised their right to press to cover the trial of the abducted associates of Mr. Sunday Igboho were today intimidated, badgered and obstructed from carrying out their assignments in court by aggressive men of the DSS who went further to seize gadgets and

You only become a man when you have been to the delivery room - Davido's DJ, Ecool writes as he welcomes baby with his partner

  Singer, Davido's DJ, ECool is now a father as he has welcomed a baby with his partner. In a post shared on his Instagram page, ECool disclosed that he thought "he was a man" before his partner gave birth. He said his narrative changed when he joined his partner in the delivery room, and only then did he realize that one can only be called a man when he watches a woman birth a child in the delivery room. He ended the post by praising the strength of women.

I should have gotten the damn vaccine - Dad sends heartbreaking text before dying of Covid-19

  A Las Vegas dad who had been battling COVID-19 reportedly sent his fiancée a heartbreaking text, which read: "I should have gotten the damn vaccine" just before he died. Michael Freedy, 39, had gone on vacation with fiancée Jessica du Preez and their children, ages 17, 10, 7, 6, and 17 months, in mid-July, KVVU reported. After their return, Freedy went to the hospital with a painful skin rash. While there, he ended up testing positive for COVID-19.  He went home to isolate, but his symptoms became more and more severe, the outlet reported. "Early Tuesday morning, I would say around 3, 4 o’clock in the morning, he wakes me up panicking," du Preez told the Fox TV station. "He’s like, ‘I can’t breathe. I know something is wrong.’ " The couple then went back to the hospital and Freedy was admitted with pneumonia in both lungs before he then moved to another hospital, where du Preez was allowed to see him.  "I just kept telling him, ‘You are going to get
